PANArt’s information regarding the Hang maker’s tuning and repair service for Hang players

On the Sustainability of the Tuning of the Hang

The hang is made of a material which we call PANG. PANG is the result of twenty years of research on the part of PANArt to come up with sustainable tuning in metal, which is an absolute prerequisite for a new world instrument.

To make a metal sound sculpture whose resonance touches human souls requires a material with a high energetic level. PANG is an iron structure reinforced with a very hard non-metallic iron nitride needle structure. The discovery of this quality opened for PANArt new horizons in sound creation.

Because of this development, the surface layer of the Hang has a non-metallic character. This surface, whose qualities are similar to ceramic, is very friendly to human hands. We regard this interface – where the Hang meets the hand – to be a defining aspect of hand-played metal instruments.

In the course of over eight years more than 6000 people have become Hang players. When these instruments come into hands of people who play them within the appropriate parameters, they do not go out of tune. Of those instruments that arrive at our workshop for repair, 99% have been damaged in various accidents – whether in transport or otherwise – or by violent playing.

The sustainability of the tuning of the Hang has been demonstrated by scientific researchers and by players who have used it every day over the course of years for their own practice in concentration.

In event of damage to your Hang

We only tune hanghang from owners who have a signed contract with us.

If you do not have a contract yet, please read the attached document, sign it in case you need your instrument to be tuned or repaired, and send in back by mail or by fax (+41 31 301 33 32). The purpose of this contract is to avoid speculation with our instruments.

We will not enter into any contract or agreement with owners who have – through speculation – purchased or sold a hang at a higher price than the original sales price. Occasionally, out-of-tune hanghang are sold at high prices and the purchaser expects us to repair the damage. As a firm with 30 years of experience in the production of metal instruments, we consider the sale of out-of-tune instruments to be dubious in the very least, and will therefore have no part of it.

Please note that we only tune PANArt instruments.

The Hangmakers of PANArt Hangbau AG, Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer, will make a general check of your hang. The sound sculpture has to reacquire its balance and harmony. We will clean it, treat it with a special oil, check it for corrosion, and polish it.
