The Discovery of Slowness

This is the title of a novel by Stan Nadolny from 1983. But it is also the motto for those interested in PANArt’s new instrument Gubal.

In winter and spring 2013/2014 the tuners at PANArt were working on modifications for the refinement of the Gubal. These were presented during the Gubal Days, May 16th to 18th, 2014 in Bern. Owners of a Gubal prototype were invited to this event. About 60 of them attended and had the opportunity to exchange the prototype with one of the refined instruments of the latest production. The current Gubal has a bottom shell made of thicker sheet steel. In addition the PANArt tuners succeeded in tuning two further modes of the ringding to the harmonic partial G5. This strengthens the central sound of the instrument called the Gung. In the next future they intend to refine this enhanced tuning technique.

Therefore they announced a four-month “Gubal break”. This implies, that they will not sell instruments to new customers during this period. If you are interested in receiving information about the further development of the Gubal, you can contact a special email address to be kept up to date:

  1. I first want to say, thank you for putting together this incredible blog! I am definitely interested in purchasing a Gubal. To my knowledge, PANArt has not yet begun to sell them yet. Can I still contact them via mail? Or is there another way? I read an entry about the Hang a while back, and someone said the wait list was about a year. Should I expect a similar wait? And would it be a good idea to contact them now?
    Many Blessings!

  2. Hi Blake,
I cannot say more than in the post above. But most of your questions are answered there and on the linked page. There is a clear advise what to do if you are interested in a Gubal.

  3. How unfortunate that I was not visiting the website regularly at the end of May and missed the opportunity to respond to the invitation. Perhaps one day the dream of a journey to Bern to return with a cherished Gubal might become reality.
