PANArt Communication May 2011: The Call of Iron
In the year 2001 PANArt introduced the Hang. 10 years later the Hang builders at PANArt, Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer, are using this anniversary as an opportunity to communicate to a broad public where the “call of iron” has taken them, where they stand today and how they intend to continue. The Hang Library publishes the PANArt communication in four different languages: German, English, French and Italian.

Those clients who currently visit the Hangbauhaus to choose a Free Integral Hang get a brochure with the title “Hang Guide”. The Hang makers Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer wrote down a few thoughts from their trove of experience to make the access to playing the Hang easier. Essential aspects of the Hang and of playing it are addressed in order to encourage and support individual explorations for the sound sculpture. There are explanations to the Free Integral Hang and its sentiment to tuning, to the art of tuning by PANArt in addition to a few practical tips.
The hang community has suggested all sorts of anticorrosive products for the treasured instrument, from B as in bee’s wax to W as in lubricants for weapons. The magic word which sages had always suggested was Biofa hard oil. However, the hard oil era is coming to an end. Since 2009 PANArt is recommending a new cleaning and anticorrosive fluid.
Contrary to various rumors and misunderstandings PANArt continues to build the Integral Hang in 2009. Periods when people can visit the Hangbauhaus and pick their Hanghang are already planned for summer and autumn. The Hang makers are sending letters inviting those who are able to purchase a Hang. The letters contain a statement where they outline their point of view regarding the Hang in the year 2009. The Hang: A sculpture, a listening device. Hang playing: Immersing oneself in a spherical world through intuitive play with the hands. Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer characterize the central aspect of their work as “harmony, equilibrium – proportion”. With the agreement they engage in with their customers they want to establish a culture of trust and respect. The Hang makers have trusted their 2009 statement with the Hangblog to be made available online.
