The Second Generation of Hanghang
Zur deutschen Version dieses Artikels

From 2006 to 2007 a new generation of Hanghang was built. Mostly the ding is tuned in D (the instruments of the first generation was tuned in A, G or F in most instances). Most of the instruments have seven tones in the tone loop.
The most striking difference is the upper surface of annealed brass and the ring of brass around the circumference.

Unlike the Instruments built before 2006 the dome of the ding isn’t gleamy but coated with brass too.

The Hang, shown in this article was built in 2007. In this year another modification was made. Here you can see the new diagonal position of the tone fields. This change leads to a clearer sound, radiating outwards with more strengh.

Every second generation hang has a signature of the hangmakers (Schärer Rohner) engraved in the bottom side.

The individual Number of the instrument is engraved in the rim of the gu.

For carrying purposes there is a protecting double shell and a backpack bag.

In the sunlight you can see the golden gleam on the hang’s surface.

A second generation Hang (built 2007) next to a first generation instrument (built 2005)

An own Hangblog entry is devoted to the first generation of hanghang, which was produced before 2006. Besides there are photos of the extended tribal family of hanghang.

I was really interested in this music since renaissance fairs, and i really wanted to learn more and I was hopping if this can come to America and when can it cause id really love to buy one asap and learn it to share the amazing tones that can come out of it by just even tapping with a finger I believe that it has totally revolutionized the music industry and if it can be sold to the US when and how much.
Thanks,
Jonathan
