Church Bell’s Sound Improvement

Nine days ago I recorded “The Day Church Bells Became Aware Of Their Profane Hearts And Decided Not To Sing For The Glory Of God Any Longer” with a small voice recorder. Now my new recording equipment, a Rode NT1-A condenser microphone and an ART Tube MP preamp, has arrived, my first recording atempt was to produce a higher quality version of this hypnotic piece of music.

Recording the hang with a Rode NT1-A

The photo shows the microphone position during the recording. The preamp output was plugged in directly in the laptop’s sound card input. Cubasis VST 5.0 was used as recording program. Afterwards I added a decent low cut and a light treble boost with WaveLab Lite. To find the satisfying adjustments was the longest procedure in the recording process.

Here you can listen to the resultmp3. Comparing it with the former voice recorder versionmp3, you will hear the improvement. For using only one mike and recording in my living room the sound quality is quite nice. The difference is still larger when you listen to the original wav files and not to the mp3 files.

Really liked what you are doing onthe hangdrum. The churchbell sound improvement is marked! I am very tempted to put an orchestral part to your performance, but would request permission first. I’m polite, unlike others…. Good luck, Guy jackson from London, UK
