The First Generation of Hanghang
Zur deutschen Version dieses Artikels

The hang of the first generation was produced by 2005. The photos in this article show an instrument built in the year 2005. It has a pygmy-scale with eight tones around the ding.
On the greenish top side the silvery dome of the ding is positioned in the middle. The Ding ist tuned in f.

The eight tones around the ding are: b flat - c’ - d’ flat - f’ - a’ flat - b’ flat - c” - d” flat.

In the middle of the more grey than greenish bottom side you find the gu, an opening for resonance.

Having a look through the gu onto the ding’s bottom side. How the inner Hang views the world outside you can follow here.
An own Hangblog entry is devoted to the second generation of hanghang, which was produced 2006 - 2007. Besides there are photos of the extended tribal family of hanghang.

All the dings and the Gu hole look slightly oval from the pictures. Is this correct?

Hi aphar,
I think you talk about the domes of the tone fields in the circle. Yes, they are oval or elyptical. The Ding is the central dome. The ding isn’t oval. Also the Gu isn’t oval on the first generation and second generation Hanghang. However the new Integral Hang has a slightly oval Gu.
